ABSTRACT

This paper investigates how employer attractiveness has been affected by developments in the attitudes, values, and goals of Generation Z (born between 1995-2010) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Research shows the challenging environment for employers who are increasingly facing a 'war for talent' and the need to focus on generational needs and expectations. Work concepts in many cases have been adapted to Generation Y, but a revision of strategies is needed for the newest generation on the labour market. The insurance industry has long struggled to attract young talent and along with retail, logistics, tourism, and banking has been ranked the lowest in employer attractiveness by Generation Z. This is corroborated by the fact that larger corporations are also often perceived as unattractive by young people. While many industries have struggled with the consequences and challenges of the pandemic, the insurance sector can be seen as having mastered the crisis comparatively well. This paper questions whether the relative job security offered by the insurance sector, can be increasingly influential in post pandemic job choices. Since Generation Z was already described as securityoriented before the pandemic, this is expected to have increased as a result of COVID-19 and be reflected in their career and employer choices. The perspectives of Generation Z and employers from the German insurance industry are compared through survey and interview data. The young cohort suspects a worsening of their situation particularly in job offerings and security. At the same time, the insurance industry positions itself well in exactly these areas. Furthermore, the aspirations and expectations of Generation Z towards the professional world coincide strongly with the offerings of insurers as employers. However, the respondents see the sector's image as a deterrent. Although this paper focuses on the insurance industry, strategic recommendations given on how the sector can position itself, are relevant for other sectors facing the challenge of attracting Generation Z employees. © 2022 Authors. ABSTRACT

The chapter presents and discusses the results of two surveys addressed to coworking spaces managers in Italy, during the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The strategies coworking spaces have adopted to cope with the pandemic are described, and the determinants of the coworking resilience level (e.g., size, ownership, sector specialisation, hybridization) are presented. It is explored how the coworking spaces managers have kept the community alive and the perception of the interviewees about the future in the two years. The results of the survey in 2021 show that the average level of profitability and confidence in coworking performance returned to the pre-pandemic level. The pandemic has underlined a potential key role of CSs in enhancing work-life balance and promoting the socio-economic development of peripheral and rural areas. Besides, during the pandemic, Southern Italy has attracted remote workers (e.g., "southworkers”), and promoted the so-called ‘community garrisons', willing to host them and ‘retain' young people. © 2023, The Author(s).

ABSTRACT

The paper explores the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on educational migration. It emphasizes that the crisis has mostly affected education as well as all areas of the world community. The paper focuses on the situation of young people wishing to get an education abroad with the prospect of staying in the chosen country for permanent residence. Therefore, it is no coincidence that we have chosen such countries as China and India for the primary analysis, in which there are many young people in general and those who strive to get an education and gain permanent residence abroad in particular. The research issues are solved using dialectical, systemic, comparative, and statistical methods. In addition, we use the results of sociological research. This paper contributes to the development of a new urgent issue of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the world community, primarily on its educational area in young people migration. The paper is conceived within the scientific project framework by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, "Educational Migration from Kazakhstan: Factors, Trends, and Social-Political Consequences.” © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

mHealth technology has the potential to transform healthcare and realize the goal of precision medicine through systematic data collection and use. Meanwhile, mHealth applications developed during COVID-19 have had limited effect, as people have been reluctant to adopt them due to a lack of trust and willingness to share data. The aim of this empirical study is to provide insights into young people's use, trust, and willingness to share data through mHealth apps as future users of healthcare services. A survey comprising 484 Danish students was conducted. It focuses on mHealth app use, willingness to share data, and trust. The findings show that the trustworthiness of the technology and data requesting organization is important for establishing trust in mHealth apps. These insights indicate how young people can be motivated to trust mHealth apps, which can be used to develop future apps and exploit the untapped potential of the collected data. © 2023 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the mood changes of youth groups during the social closure control of the COVID-19 pan-demic and the primary causes of those changes, taking Chinese online video platforms as an example. We also compare the main concerns of various periods to provide feasible references and suggestions on psychological interventions for young people during the social closure control period. In this study, we identified mood changes during the COVID-19 pandemic with 31,213 comments on the news videos of the Bilibili video platform through four stages: data collection, data processing, LDA topic modeling, and mood identification. Through a comparative analysis, we investigated the topical features of young people's mood changes in three COVID-19 periods: pre-, mid-, and late-epidemic. As a result, we found that social isolation measures such as closure and homeschooling with long-term Internet use during the epidemic were more likely to cause depression in young people. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the research is to analyze the higher academic offerings in communication and related fields in the Andean Community to determine if there is a relationship with the potential demands of adolescents who developed competencies to generate and exchange audiovisual content since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The research question is: should the academic curricula related to audiovisual and media competence of Andean universities change or be updated to meet a new profile of young people who know the audiovisual language? The methodology is qualitative and descriptive through content analysis of the academic curricula of the leading universities in the international rankings that classify Latin American universities, as well as semi-structured interviews with experts in higher education in communication in the region. In the case of communication studies and related areas, it happens that young people, before entering university, learn autonomously many of the techniques, processes and audiovisual languages that feed the contents of the current offer, but it is an instruction acquired without the corresponding social contexts, deontological senses and responsibilities. The denominations of the titles of the careers are classic, the formation of media competence is not alluded to or implicitly assumed, the same happens with the names of the courses taught, they respond to common or generic programs of professional formation with emphasis on journalistic production and audiovisual contents. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

From an increasingly early age, girls and boys handle technology, and digital education must become an essential part of the training of young people. The European Union has recognized that it is urgent to strengthen training in digital competence throughout Europe so that Member States can recover from the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to building the foundations for a more ecological and digital Europe. In line with European policies, Spain has designed a national plan for digital skills, providing a strategic framework aligned with the 2030 agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From the private sector, digital education initiatives have also been proposed. Thus, the Vodafone Spain Foundation has designed and is carrying out an educational program for the development of digital competence. In this educational program, gamification is part of both the training activities and the evaluation process, and in both cases, it is understood as a strategy aimed to promote engagement to the training process. This chapter presents the educational program DigiCraft for the development of digital competence and the evaluation process designed to verify their acquisition, in which the game has a fundamental pedagogical role. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

University graduates have new challenges in the post-COVID-19 era that impact the perspective of new graduates in choosing their careers. The startup is a popular career alternative for young people who dream of a better world. A mature intellectual quotient, emotional quotient, and spiritual quotient are considered to encourage someone to decide to become a startup founder. This study aims to analyze several variables that are indicated to influence the motivation of graduates to become entrepreneurs and their impact on interest in establishing a startup. The questionnaire was distributed to 400 respondents who were graduates of state universities in Indonesia. The data is then processed using path analysis. The results show that the intellectual quotient variable has no significant effect on the motivation to become an entrepreneur. Meanwhile, the emotional quotient and spiritual quotient show a significant impact on the motivation of university graduates and their interest in becoming startup entrepreneurs. The implications of this research are helpful in developing learning at the university level in Indonesia. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The covid-19 pandemic triggered the widespread use of digital technologies in practically all countries not only because of the need for organizations, companies and institutions to continue to produce, but also as a way for individuals - beings of a social nature - to communicate and interact with each other during this whole troubled period. Higher education institutions were also no exception and were forced to implement online teaching across the country so that students would not be left without access to knowledge and, consequently, regress in learning. The University Tunas that constitute themselves as musical groups and are normally assigned to these institutions (of higher education) are also an example of organizations or associations that have had to adapt to new contingencies through the latest digital technologies. This study focuses precisely on this issue of the use of digital technologies by University Tunas. However, the specific case study is the “RaussTuna - Tuna Mista de Bragança (TMB)” of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (Portugal). In general, we intend to understand how this group of young people use digital technologies within the scope of their activity as an associative group: What are the digital technologies adopted by the University Tunas? What restrictions do members of a Tuna have in the use of digital technologies? What suggestions can be implemented to improve the digital quality of Tuna's activities? The results point to the use of a wide range of digital technologies for different purposes, especially office tools, electronic presentation software, audio, video, management of conferences or events and social networks. Members assume that they have a set of restrictions regarding the use of technologies and because of this they need training in the area to improve their skills. Finally, Tuna members present a set of improvements both at the software and at the hardware level that eventually can be implemented to increase digital quality. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

The objective of this paper was to evaluate the impact of the pandemic as a stressor event on young people at the beginning of their professional careers. We report on three subsequent studies on a relatively underexplored aspect: The lack of inspiration, challenge, and team spirit, could lead to job boredom, disinterest, and a perceived limitation to personal development. At its extreme, a boreout can occur. A boreout describes a negative mental state triggered by prolonged exposure to the combined impact of the three aforementioned dimensions. Boredom and a crisis of growth became evident, but neither of the three studies could find evidence for disinterest or a crisis of meaning. Instead, it revealed the magic of resilience kicking in and confirmed that digital work connectivity diminished the negative side-effects of starting a professional career during the lockdown. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Phone sharing is pervasive in many low- and middle-income countries, affecting how millions of people interact with technology and each other. Yet there is very little quantitative evidence available on the extent or nature of phone sharing in resource-constrained contexts. This paper provides a comprehensive quantitative analysis of demographic variation in phone sharing patterns in Togo, and documents how a large cash transfer program during the COVID-19 pandemic impacted sharing. We analyze mobile phone records from the entire Togolese mobile network to measure the movement of SIM cards between SIM card slots (often on different mobile devices). By matching phone sharing measures derived from SIM reshuffling to demographic data from a government-run cash transfer program covering hundreds of thousands of individuals, we find that phone sharing is most common among women, young people, and people in rural areas. We also leverage randomization in the cash transfer program to find that the delivery of cash aid via mobile money significantly increases phone sharing among beneficiaries. We discuss the limitations of measuring phone sharing with mobile network data and the implications of our results for future aid programs delivered via mobile money. © 2022 Owner/Author.

ABSTRACT

Cooking has played an essential role in the growth of culture and civilization for the past 1.8 million years. However, the lockdown in various countries, including Germany, has prompted people to improve their health and well-being due to the coronavirus pandemic. While doing this, searching for recipes becomes one of the popular and essential activities as it allows people worldwide to prepare dishes from various countries. But finding recipes on the internet is like searching in the wild with thousands of recipes available for a single dish. Traditional recipes are essential in a human being’s life. However, for students away from home or working young people who have little time to cook, many recipes have been forgotten for a long time. Therefore, MISOhungry gives solutions to both the user groups through this platform. The recipes provided are by scraping data from online food blogs to create recipes complete with ingredients nutritional information. On the same site, youngsters may also access traditional recipes provided by the elderly. Studies show that sharing recipes linked with memories stimulates generative activity in older adults and makes them happy later. The study demonstrates that the platform is accessible to both user groups, young people are interested in receiving traditional recipes, and they would like to use this platform which directly bridges the generation gap in recipe sharing, search, and management. MISOhungry promotes the idea of “Happiness is Homemade” by making cooking more accessible to both user groups. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

This paper debates and describes how the use of participatory methodologies were useful and flexible to engage and access the digital attitudes and practices of different generations of participants - from young people to older people - involved in two research projects in Portugal: DiCi-Educa and SMaRT-EU. The paper also describes the methodological decisions and how these impacted in participants involvement as how they adjusted to different contexts, including disconnecting settings and COVID-19 and its digital challenges, in DiCi-Educa. Both projects used workshops as an active and participatory methodology to engage the different generations with transformations during COVID-19 pandemic context. Despite the unpredictable difficulties, the use of the online environment also promoted positive ways of better engaging with the participants, namely in the SMaRT-EU project. Both experiences were very enriching to prepare a third project we present in the final part of the paper: YouNDigital. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

The sudden arrival of COVID-19 has brought a lot of inconvenience to people’s lives. It also has an adverse impact on people’s mental health. Because COVID-19 can spread directly, aerosol and contact, this uncontrollable and rapid mode of communication restricts people’s going out, and all the original party and entertainment activities are restricted, which for today’s young people, is tantamount to reducing the way to vent stress, but also brings a sense of loneliness. Young people have become the biggest victims of COVID-19’s restricted activities, and more and more young people suffer from mental health diseases. Keeping pets is used to improve mental health disorders, and more and more people are starting to keep pets, but on the other hand, the number of people who abandon their pets is also on the rise, and a large number of them are forced to separate from their pets for external reasons. To get rid of this situation, more and more people use virtual pets to replace real pets, but the current virtual pets are also in a state of saturation and there are many problems. Therefore, we have developed a portable simulated pet ‘KEDAMA’, which can be customized according to the user’s personal preferences, based on the five senses, and the price is very cheap and easy to order. Not only to replace pets, but also hope that KEDAMA can improve people’s mental health and prevent more young people from depression. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

This article deals with the research of the factors impacting current trends and changes in the labor market, such as the drop in global oil prices, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the digital transformation of the economy. The results of the analysis confirm that these factors have similar impacts on threats like cutting previously created jobs in various sectors and areas of activity, intensifying gender and age inequalities (with young people, senior employees, and working women facing the highest risks). At the same time, the impacts of these factors on the structural elements of the global and Russian labor markets are diverse and ambivalent. The authors show that global digital transformation does not only threaten to eliminate low-skilled jobs and routines that can be easily automated but also helps create new jobs. Besides, it leads to changes in working conditions and the establishment of new sets and combinations of skills required to succeed in the labor market. The development of digital qualifications and skills must become one of the prioritized aspects in the development of the global and national education systems. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

The article deals with the problem of psychological well-being of young people during the coronavirus pandemic, the impact of social deprivation on the emotional, intellectual, behavioral activity of a person. The role of communication in human life is presented on the basis of the analysis of views, opinions, ideas of scientists of the humanities. The essence of the concept of social deprivation and its impact on the psychosocial well-being of young people is considered. Mental deprivation can be represented in a combination of its types: sensory, motor, emotional, cognitive and social, which confirms the interdependence of social deprivation and a person's mental well-being. The analysis of the results of a study on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the psychological well-being of young people is presented. The study involved 170 people. More than half of the respondents felt restrictions in activity and communication. Ethical consciousness and self-awareness have changed, qualitative changes have been observed in the ideological rethinking of some values: understanding the essence and importance of personal freedom, responsibility, self-attitude, long-term planning, attitude to other people, relatives and friends. At the same time, a conscious, realistic, pragmatic understanding of what is happening and the formed adaptive, habitual interaction of young people in the digital space did not allow them to succumb to panic, emotional depression, apathy. Young people, even with external restrictions, continued to develop and implement their activity, virtual communication with benefits for personal growth and development. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus Covd-19 has suddenly and unpredictably changed the running of schools and their communities’ dynamics. In response to an emergency state marked by long periods of confinement, of children and young people at home, often of indefinite duration and sometimes intermittent, logistic and pedagogic adaptations were required. In a school for early childhood and basic education, where the arts strongly influence the educational project, both at the conceptual and methodological level and at the level of interdisciplinary practice itself, the challenge went on in several fronts: the ways of regular contact with children and young people for teaching interaction, the creation of projects that develop skills related to knowledge, expression and communication and, finally, the moments of sharing, in which the work carried out becomes public and is reflected and debated collectively. This article describes the adaptation of visual and performing arts to remote online learning, as well as results obtained by the creative application of computer and image technologies, between March 2020 and March 2021. For an educational project of proximity and creativity, how could we defend the fundamental value of arts in education through digital mediation? What processes, artistic objects and sharing models resulted from this reality? © 2021 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Publication rights licensed to ACM.

ABSTRACT

The crisis, caused by COVID-19, created a lot of issues in this world. The phenomenon of "domestic abuse" escalated. The pandemic and the lockdowns, unfortunately, aided the "abusers". The victims remained locked with their abusers and their "escape routes" and opportunities for help decreased. Methods. The aim of the present study is to examine the level of occurrence of violence among student-athletes, as well as their preparedness and competence to react. Results. From the obtained and presented data, it could be concluded that physical and sexual violence arc not widespread among Bulgarian athletes. It is noteworthy that parents are more likely to physically abuse their children than the coaches are. Also, the relationship between the athletes themselves is not under the sign of violence - 82.7% (n = 115) say that they have never been a victim of physical violence by a teammate, and three of them say they have been a victim of sexual violence by a teammate. Conclusions. Given the growth in registered cases of violence, incl. the domestic violence, as well as globalization worldwide, it is necessary to implement a unified discrete signal that can be safely shown in the occurrence of violence. This signal is essential so that it can be used when needed from children to adults, from women and men. The promotion of the international signal for help is important in order to prevent and provide timely assistance to victims of violence. It is important for people to know about it, to use it when needed, but also to recognize it when someone uses it.

ABSTRACT

Pneumonia is life-threatening. It's critical for infants, young children, elders, and people with health problems or enfeebles immune systems. However, someone who has been infected with coronavirus can get intense Pneumonia in each lung. The best way to stumble on Pneumonia is via chest X-ray. Radiotherapist is required for an examination of chest X-Ray. An automated pneumonia detection device would be helpful for early detection in far-off places. The proposed method makes it possible to train ViT models with enhanced performance. Nowadays, ViT is an alternative method of CNN in the field of computer vision. In this research, three models have been proposed, namely convolutional neural network (CNN), VGG16, and Visual Transformer were constructed. Statistical results are obtained after the comparison of all three models. Results indicate that ViT can identify Pneumonia with an accuracy of 96.45%. And also can be used to recognize other lung-related diseases. All the models were trained and tested on a dataset that contains standard chest X-Rays and pneumonia chest X-Rays. © 2021 IEEE.
